Motorsport UK has outlined proposed changes that would restrict the future conversion of Rally2 and R5 cars to Category 2 specification for British stage rallies.

In a bulletin published on 5 November, the governing body said the proposal would affect cars originally built and homologated as Rally2 or R5 machinery, as well as bodyshells made to homologated manufacturer designs. Cars already holding a Category 2 passport would be allowed to continue competing in Class 2 for their lifetime.

For cars in the planning or build stage, Motorsport UK proposes a deadline of 31 December 2026 to apply to begin the Category 2 process, followed by 1 March 2027 for its technical team to receive a completed application. It also proposes a 32mm turbo restrictor for modified Rally2 and R5 cars competing in Class 2.

The governing body says the intention is to retain Class 1 as the highest-performance stage rally category. The linked consultation document gives 2 November as the closing date for comments; the measures described are proposals.
