HP ↔ KW Converter
NM ↔ Ft-LB Converter
Torque & RPM to HP
HP ↔ KW Principles
Horsepower (HP) and Kilowatts (KW) are both measures of power. The conversion is based on standard factors:
- 1 Imperial HP = 0.7457 KW
- 1 Metric HP (PS) = 0.7355 KW
- 1 KW = 1.34102 HP (Imperial)
- 1 KW = 1.35962 PS (Metric HP)
HP is commonly used in the UK and US, while KW is the standard power unit in the metric system.
NM ↔ Ft-LB Principles
Newton-Meters (NM) and Foot-Pounds (Ft-LB) are both units of torque, measuring rotational force:
- 1 NM = 0.73756 Ft-LB
- 1 Ft-LB = 1.35582 NM
NM is the metric unit for torque, commonly used in Europe, while Ft-LB is more common in the US and UK.
Torque & RPM to HP Principles
Power (HP) is derived from torque and rotational speed (RPM) using the formula:
- HP (Imperial) = (Torque in Ft-LB × RPM) / 5252
- PS (Metric HP) = HP × 1.01387
- KW = HP × 0.7457
This calculation shows how engine torque at a given RPM translates into power output.
