Classic car and carburettor tuning in South Wales

Carburettors, ignition and vintage fuel injection

Flat spots, inconsistent idle or poor response can make a classic difficult to enjoy. At Llandow Tuning in South Wales, we investigate running problems and tune carburettor, ignition and older injection setups with the vehicle's condition and intended use in mind.

Our work includes Weber, Solex, Dellorto, SU, Stromberg and Zenith carburettors, as well as early Bosch Jetronic and mechanical fuel injection systems. Tell us what is fitted, what has changed and when the symptoms occur so we can plan the right starting point.

Whether you want to retain an original setup or discuss an ignition, carburettor or EFI conversion, we can assess the existing installation and agree a practical scope. Start with an engine health check if the condition or cause of poor running is uncertain.

Original specification or a modified classic?

Let us know whether preserving the original components is a priority. Engine, carburettor and ignition details help us discuss adjustments or conversion work that fits your plans.

Services for Classic Vehicles

New Carbs

New Carburettor Setups

If you have fitted new carburettors or changed the type, we can assess the installation and tune it for the engine. Include the carburettor specification and any current jetting or setup notes when enquiring.

Vintage Carburettor Tuning

We work with older carburettors including Weber, SU, Stromberg and Zenith. Describe flat spots, rough idle or fuel consumption concerns so we can discuss investigation, adjustment and any parts needed.

Ignition System Upgrades

Discuss electronic ignition conversions or servicing a traditional distributor. We can assess the existing system and help you choose work that suits the engine and your preference for original or updated components.

Setting Ignition Timing

Ignition timing is considered alongside the fuel system and engine specification. Let us know about distributor changes, previous adjustments and the fuel used when arranging a setup session.

Vintage Fuel Injection Tuning

We work with early Bosch Jetronic and mechanical fuel injection setups. Send the system details and symptoms to discuss diagnostic or tuning work for your particular installation.

Engine Overhauls

Engine overhaul work is available where inspection indicates that mechanical repairs are needed. The condition, parts and machining required determine the scope; we discuss the findings and agree the work before proceeding.

Non-Running Engines

Contact us with the symptoms and any recent work before arranging transport. Our engine health check provides a starting point for investigating why the engine will not run.
Engine Checkover

Classic Performance Tuning

Discuss carburettor, ignition and fuel delivery setup for your classic. We consider its mechanical condition, modifications and intended use before agreeing the tuning work and any rolling road testing.

Waterless Coolant Conversion

We offer Evans Waterless Coolant conversion as an option for suitable classic vehicles. Discuss your current cooling system, any existing overheating problem and the way the car is used before deciding on a conversion. We can agree the preparation and work required for your installation.

Cooling System Upgrades

Cooling work includes radiator upgrades, electric fan installation and system cleaning. Describe any overheating symptoms and the current setup so we can discuss investigation and the appropriate repairs or changes.

Modern EFI Conversions

Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) conversion is an option for owners considering a change from carburettors. Discuss the engine, planned use and existing fuel and ignition systems so we can establish the installation and calibration work required.

Carburettor Conversions

We offer Weber and Dellorto carburettor conversion work. Whether replacing a worn unit or changing the setup, the carburettor choice and subsequent tuning need to match the engine specification and intended use.

What does classic car tuning cost?

We like to start with our £150 engine health check. It establishes a starting point so we can discuss the findings and agree a plan. You can take the vehicle away and rebook, or arrange for it to stay for the work agreed.

A minor adjustment may be covered by the £150 check. Work such as re-jetting carburettors needs a tuning session, and any repairs or additional parts are discussed separately. The vehicle's condition and the work required determine the overall quote.

Rolling road tuning for classic cars

Our rolling road allows us to assess the engine under controlled load. Combined with gas analysis, it gives us information about how the carburettor and ignition setup behaves beyond idle and helps guide adjustments.

The appropriate session depends on whether the car is running correctly, needs fault investigation or is ready for tuning after mechanical changes. Read about our dyno testing and diagnostic sessions, and confirm the vehicle's suitability before booking.

Preparing your classic for a workshop visit

Send the specification and symptoms

Include the make, model, year, engine and carburettor or injection type. Tell us about ignition changes, engine work, the fuel used and when the problem appears: cold starting, idle, acceleration or sustained driving.

Old invoices, setup notes, jet or needle information and details of recent repairs can help explain what has already been tried. For a non-running vehicle, contact us before arranging transport.

Agree the work and appointment length

Condition, access, required parts and the amount of investigation or adjustment affect the overall cost. Carburettor re-jetting, repairs and conversion work need their own agreed scope beyond the initial health check.

Ask about preparation and timing when booking. If a rolling road session is planned, review the dyno preparation guidance and disclose any leaks, running faults or drivetrain concerns beforehand.
