Engine Checkover

Providing of course your engine is fitted with an injection or ignition ECU we will use one of our dealer or dealer level tools to communicate with the engine ECU, obtain any error codes and access the serial live data.

We will check your vehicle over before loading it on the dyno. We will check things like the Tyres, Oil Level, Water Levels, check for oil leaks etc. No we aren't performing a vehicle service, but making sure the vehicle is fit for going on the rolling road

An inital power run will help identify the current horsepower and torque being generated by the engine. We will use this as an inital benchmark

We will use our AVL 5 Gas Analyser to obtain the emission readings for the vehicle. AVL making in our opinion the very best emission test equipment. AVL being the same make you will find in most vehicle manufacturer R&D facilities not to mention goverment test labs.

Multipble Bosch Wideband O2 Sensors are used to determine the vehicle AFR ratio at different loads and different RPM settings

We will check each carb to see if its inbalance with the others. We have multipble flow meters so we can check multipble ports at the same time. We also have older Crpton style units for SU carbs. Checking the carb balance is essential to ensure all carbs are balaned.

Check the MAF sensor is reporting via the engine ECU the correct airflow at idle. Sometimes sensors drift

Checking the inlet and induction system for leaks is essential in ensuring the engine doesn't run lean becuase of incorrect data being fed to the ECU or even the carbs not being able exposed to full engine vacumn

We will install a fuel pressure guage on the low pressure side (up to 100psi) and check that the fuel pump is supply pressure. We can also check that any variable fuel pressure units are outputing what they claim.

Compare what any serial live data sensor says about pressure pressure to actual fuel pressure. Quite often the low pressure sensor isn't reporting to the ECU the fuel that is being delivered

Checking the engines condition via a compression test is essential to ensure that each cylinder is performing equally. If a cylinder is more than 15% out of tolerance there is certainly a major issue. 15% I think most people would struggle to detect by ear.

An examination of a vehicles spark plugs gives a real insight to in cylinder performance. Not just the colour but the difference in colour between cylinders can help pinpoint undesierable running conditions. All plugs will be cleaned with a sand blaster

Boost pressure will be checked, the MAP sensor checker and logged during numerous dyno runs. If needed we will use a turbo system leakage tester

We'll check the output of the High Pressure Fuel Pump and the High Pressure Sensor Calibration against a physical gauge. If you've changed sensors to a higher pressure gauge this is an idea service to ensure your rescaled sensor map is correct

Our Delphi Fuel Anayliser will be used to check the condition of your engines diesel

Using an in cylinder testing method we will check your engines ignition angle at idle. We will determine as closly as possible the actual point the ignition is fired in degrees.

We will check the main coil, coils or each COP and compare peak voltage. We will be able to detect bad plugs or poor combustion on any cylinder.
