The programme

From tyre shop to race-car development

Established in 2007, Rocketdog Racing grew from a tyre and tuning business into race-car preparation and its own competitive programme. That hands-on background shapes cars that are fast, serviceable and built for real club-racing weekends.

Llandow Tuning supports the programme where engine management, gearbox behaviour and diagnosis meet. On the Volkswagen Scirocco, that includes developing the engine and DSG calibrations together rather than treating them as separate jobs.

The current programme spans the high-revving Mazda RX-8 and the turbocharged Volkswagen Scirocco GT DSG. The platforms are very different, but both need predictable response, useful logging and technical support that can turn a driver's feedback into a clear next step.

For club motorsport, a fast car must also be a car the team can understand, service and send back out.

The race cars

Two very different platforms give Rocketdog a broad club-motorsport programme—and give us two distinct calibration challenges to solve.

Mazda RX-8

Rocketdog's race-winning RX-8 combines an agile rear-wheel-drive chassis with a naturally aspirated rotary engine and a build designed for competitive club motorsport.

Our input: Engine calibration, data logging and fault diagnosis focused on usable response, consistency and making the most of the car over a full race session.

Volkswagen Scirocco GT DSG

The Scirocco expands Rocketdog's programme into turbocharged Volkswagen Group machinery, where engine torque delivery and DSG behaviour have to be developed as one package.

Our input: Engine and DSG calibration, including revised shift behaviour and removal of forced automatic upshifts in manual mode to give the driver greater control on circuit.

Workshop-to-track support

How Llandow Tuning supports the programme

Track work is most useful when the car, logs and driver feedback tell the same story.

  1. 01

    Engine tuning

Calibrate torque delivery, throttle response and engine protection around the car, its hardware and the demands of circuit use.

  2. 02

    DSG tuning

Develop gearbox torque limits, gear selection and shift behaviour alongside the engine calibration so both control systems work together.

  3. 03

No automatic upshifts in manual mode

Remove forced upshifts in manual mode so the driver can hold the selected gear when the circuit or race situation demands it.

  4. 04

    Logging and fault diagnosis

Use repeatable logs to trace load-dependent problems through the ECU, DSG, sensors, wiring and supporting hardware.

  5. 05

    Track drivability and reliability

Refine response, consistency and safeguards so the car delivers over a complete session rather than only on a single dyno pull.

Race results

A successful programme that keeps developing.

Rocketdog and its drivers have built a strong club-racing record across Mazda RX-8 competition, with class victories, podium finishes and an expanding Volkswagen programme.

2023—25

RX-8 class wins and podiums

Multiple class wins and podium finishes for the team's Mazda RX-8 across WSSCC, BRSCC Clubsport and 750 Roadsport competition.

WRDA

Eight wins from nine races

Driver Leigh Haslett recorded eight victories and one second place across a nine-race WRDA run.

BRSCC

More RX-8 class success

Barny Francis added further class wins and podiums in BRSCC Clubsport and Production Cup guest drives.

Race-weekend support

Technical help that carries through the weekend.

Our job is to give Rocketdog an engine and gearbox package that behaves consistently, produces useful data and gives the driver the control expected from a properly developed race car.

That support continues when the car needs diagnosis, calibration changes or a clearer answer from the logs before the next session.
