Coding options by manufacturer
These guides give examples we can assess on compatible vehicles. Two cars that look the same can have different equipment and coding options.
BMW & MINI coding

Everyday feature customisation
Depending on the fitted equipment, coding can change supported settings for locking, remote windows, powered mirrors, welcome lighting, dashboard displays and cabin comfort. Some options expose an existing setting in a vehicle menu; others alter the behaviour of an already fitted system.
It does not install missing equipment. A mirror-folding request, for example, needs suitable powered mirrors and compatible controls. Tell us about other makes too: the four guides above are starting points, and we can discuss your exact vehicle.
What is the difference between the services?
Coding
Coding changes the configuration of an electronic module for functions and equipment it already supports. It can be needed for personalisation, a compatible retrofit or installation of a replacement module.
Flashing or software programming
Flashing writes software to a control unit. The correct software and procedure depend on the module and vehicle. This is separate from changing a coding setting. Tell us if the unit has been tuned, replaced or previously programmed.
Adaptation and basic settings
Adaptation sets up a supported component or its learned values after relevant installation or repair work. Battery configuration, battery replacement registration and service interval resets are different tasks; the correct procedure depends on the system fitted.
Preparing a replacement ECU
Some used modules can be prepared for installation in another vehicle, a process sometimes called virginising. It is not available for every unit. Compatibility, software and any pairing requirements must be established before buying a replacement.
Retrofits and replacement modules
Ask us about compatible equipment upgrades, infotainment retrofits such as CarPlay, or configuration associated with a replacement gearbox or control unit. Send the original specification and exact replacement part numbers. Coding alone cannot make incompatible parts work together.
Changing the fullscreen presentation of existing CarPlay is different from activating smartphone integration. Activation or a retrofit may need suitable hardware, software and the appropriate manufacturer entitlement.
Replacement restraint controllers and seat-related airbag warnings are covered by SRS and airbag diagnostics. Gearbox-controller setup, adaptations and conversion planning are covered by transmission diagnostics.
Choose the right starting point
For a running fault, start with engine diagnostics or non-start diagnostics. A suspected faulty module may need ECU testing or a vehicle fault assessment first. Key-recognition and security-system concerns belong with immobiliser diagnostics.
