Non-Start & Starting Fault Diagnostics in South Wales

Find why the engine will not start

Tell us whether the engine turns over, struggles to start or starts and then stops. Those details help us plan investigation of engine management, fuel delivery and any relevant immobiliser concern.

A free scan and assessment provides the starting point when the vehicle is present. Scanning depends on communication; a vehicle that cannot communicate may need further tests as part of the agreed diagnostic plan.

Starting problems we investigate

  • An engine that turns over but will not start.
  • Failure to crank or a start request that is not recognised.
  • Difficult starting when cold or hot.
  • Starting and immediately stopping.
  • Key-recognition or immobiliser warnings.
  • A non-start after engine work, ECU replacement or a software change.

Establish what is missing from the starting process

We consider starting behaviour, available codes and live data before selecting checks. Depending on the vehicle, these can involve supply voltage, start authorisation, engine speed or timing information, fuel delivery and relevant ignition or mechanical checks.

Electrical measurements and Pico scope testing can help investigate signals and controls. The scope depends on the engine, diagnostic access and what has already been established.

Is it an immobiliser fault?

A non-start does not automatically mean the key or ECU is faulty. Include the exact warning, whether a spare key changes the behaviour and any recently replaced modules.

Immobiliser diagnostics covers relevant key recognition and module communication. ECU testing and coding and programming are separate follow-on services when the evidence supports them.

Contact us before arranging delivery

All work takes place at Llandow. If the vehicle cannot be driven here, contact us with its registration, symptoms, warning photographs and existing scan reports before arranging transport. We can discuss what should accompany it, including keys and previous records.

For an engine that starts but runs poorly, see misfire diagnosis and injector fault diagnosis.

From assessment to a diagnostic plan

We explain the initial findings and next useful tests. The free assessment is separate from chargeable investigation, dismantling, programming and repair. Describe earlier attempts and modifications so the plan builds on the available information.
