Advanced engine diagnostics in South Wales

Investigating faults beyond a code scan

Persistent misfires, uneven running or unexplained power loss need a test plan. At our Llandow workshop, we use live data, data logging and in-cylinder pressure analysis to investigate engine behaviour and help decide what to check or repair next.

When advanced diagnostics can help

This service is useful when a fault keeps returning, previous repairs have not resolved the symptoms, or a modified engine needs closer investigation before further tuning. Tell us what has already been tested so that the next session builds on that evidence.

If you have a new warning light and no previous diagnosis, start with a vehicle fault assessment. For a running vehicle that needs a performance baseline before upgrades, see our engine checkover.

How the investigation is planned

  1. Understand the symptom. We discuss when it occurs, the vehicle's history and any existing diagnostic results.
  2. Select relevant measurements. Depending on the engine and the concern, this may include live running data, pressure analysis or logging under appropriate operating conditions.
  3. Compare the evidence. Measurements help narrow down possible causes and identify the next useful test.
  4. Discuss the next step. Further investigation, a repair or a separate tuning session may be needed.

Some problems can be investigated without dismantling the engine. Others still require access to components or strip-down to confirm the cause. Intermittent faults may also need more than one observation period.

What affects the diagnostic quote?

The time needed depends on access to the engine, the measurements required, whether the fault can be reproduced and any previous modifications. Diagnostics and repair are separate stages; describe your concern when enquiring so we can discuss a suitable starting point.

Where testing points to a specific component, related services include injector testing and ECU testing.
