Llandow Tuning provides Haldex servicing at our workshop beside Llandow Race Track, near Cowbridge and Llantwit Major. We help owners across South Wales with scheduled maintenance and faults affecting their all-wheel-drive system.
The Haldex coupling controls the transfer of drive through a clutch assembly. Its fluid, pump and controls need to be considered as a system. A service can include the correct coupling oil and applicable filter or pump-strainer work, while a warning or loss of rear-wheel drive needs diagnosis.
Send your registration, mileage and service history so we can identify the fitted system and quote for the right work.
Request a Haldex Service Quote Call 01446 355001For maintenance: tell us when the coupling oil and any filter were last serviced. A gearbox or rear-differential oil change may not have included the Haldex unit.
For a fault: send the exact warning message, any diagnostic codes and when the symptoms occur. Include previous pump, coupling or differential repairs.
The model year and drivetrain specification matter. We confirm the unit before selecting oil or ordering parts.
We identify the required fluid and use the filling and level-setting procedure for the fitted unit. The Haldex coupling has its own oil requirements; gearbox oil and rear-differential oil are separate service items.
If you want those oils changed too, include them in the enquiry. Our oil change services and gearbox and drivetrain servicing pages explain the related work.
Some generations have a replaceable filter. Later Gen V designs changed the hydraulic arrangement and removed the earlier separate filter, so a filter replacement is not the same job on every Haldex system.
Where an accessible pump strainer is fitted, we can discuss inspection and cleaning as part of the agreed work. We identify the arrangement, required seals and access before quoting.
We review relevant faults, accessible leaks and the condition of the system. Supported pump tests, live data and any required basic settings depend on the vehicle and the work performed.
If a component has failed, we explain the findings and repair options. Fresh oil cannot repair an internally faulty pump, damaged wiring or mechanical wear.
BorgWarner recommends the appropriate system oil and manufacturer service intervals. We check the requirements for your vehicle rather than applying one mileage interval to every model.
These symptoms do not all prove a Haldex fault. Tyres, the differential, other driveline components and the vehicle's controls may need checking as well. Tell us what happens during normal driving; there is no need to provoke wheelspin to demonstrate the problem.
Pump performance, fluid condition, leaks, electrical supply and control faults are possible areas for investigation. A code containing the word “pump” should be assessed alongside the symptoms and the applicable diagnostic procedure.
For example, Audi documented an internal hydraulic-pump leak on certain 2015–2016 A3 and Q3 quattro vehicles. That specific fault requires a different response from routine oil maintenance; it is not a diagnosis for every car with an AWD warning.
Where supported and appropriate, repairs may involve the pump, seals, electrical connections or other coupling components. We discuss the identified fault, parts availability and any further testing before proceeding.
Examples include the versions below. Equipment changes with model year, engine, market and drivetrain, so this is a guide for enquiries rather than a complete compatibility list.
| Make or model family | Examples to check |
|---|---|
| Land Rover and Range Rover | Four-wheel-drive Freelander 2, selected Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport versions with a Haldex coupling. The Evoque and Discovery Sport driveline specification needs particular attention: Active Driveline versions must not be assumed to use the same unit or service. |
| Volkswagen | Golf R32, Mk6/Mk7 Golf R, and selected Golf, Passat and Tiguan 4MOTION versions. Later or differently equipped 4MOTION vehicles need their own identification. |
| Audi | Selected A3, S3, TT and Q3 quattro model years. The quattro badge is used with different drivetrain designs across the Audi range. |
| SEAT and Skoda | Selected SEAT Leon and Ateca 4Drive, and Skoda Octavia, Superb, Yeti, Karoq and Kodiaq 4x4 versions. Confirm the actual AWD equipment and model year. |
BorgWarner's application guide illustrates the range of coupling generations and manufacturers. We use the registration, VIN or fitted-unit identification to check the individual vehicle.
A Range Rover, quattro, 4MOTION or 4Drive badge alone is not enough to specify a Haldex service. For a BMW AWD enquiry, see our xDrive servicing page, where the fitted drivetrain is assessed separately.
Follow the current service schedule for your exact vehicle and coupling. Bring earlier invoices so we can check what was done and when. An unknown history or a warning is a reason to discuss the condition, not to assume one interval applies to every model.
No. On these installations, the coupling and rear differential have distinct fluid requirements even though they sit close together. A rear-differential or gearbox oil change does not automatically service the coupling.
No. The generation determines whether a separate replaceable filter is fitted. Pump-strainer inspection is also distinct from replacing a filter cartridge. We explain which work applies to your unit and what is included in the quotation.
Only an assessment can establish the likely repair. An oil service may be due alongside the fault, but cannot be promised to fix it. Diagnostic findings guide component replacement and any required setup afterwards.
Send your registration, model year, mileage and previous Haldex service details. For a fault, include the warning message, stored codes and a description of when the problem occurs. Mention recent tyre changes, driveline work or modifications.
The coupling generation, fluid specification, filter or strainer access, seals and any diagnostic or repair work affect the price and workshop time. We confirm the scope and booking arrangements before you travel.
