Tom Roche won the first two Group A races for Mk1 Mazdas at the 2016 Silverstone finale, with Oliver Allwood denying him a hat-trick on the last lap of the season.
BRSCC's report on 19 October said Roche's second place in the final race put him in position to take the Mk1 championship, subject to official confirmation.
His SuperCup weekend was more difficult. A track-limits penalty dropped him to fourth in the opener, and contact with Jonathan Greensmith led to exclusion from the next race. Roche recovered to fourth in the finale, but James Blake-Baldwin secured the SuperCup title with second place.
