How nitrous adds power
Heat during combustion breaks down nitrous oxide and releases oxygen, allowing additional fuel to burn. The fuel supply and engine tuning need to support the extra power.
- The amount of nitrous delivered needs to suit the engine and the power increase being discussed.
- Some kits add fuel with the nitrous; others rely on the car's fuel system to supply the extra fuel.
- Controls restrict activation to suitable engine speeds, throttle openings and driving conditions.
Supporting upgrades
We will check the fuel supply, engine condition and transmission before recommending how much extra power to aim for.
- The bottle, valves, jets and pipework need the correct fittings and secure installation.
- Suitable controls can stop delivery if fuel pressure or the air/fuel mixture falls outside the agreed limits.

Dyno testing lets us check fuelling and the engine's response as nitrous switches on, while it is operating and as it switches off.
- We start with a modest delivery level and check fuel pressure and mixture, with ignition and knock checks on petrol engines.
- Repeated testing helps show how changing bottle pressure and temperature affect the result.
- The final settings need to stay within the limits agreed for the engine and transmission.
