DPF Diagnostics in South Wales

A blocked-filter warning does not always mean the filter needs replacing. We investigate the DPF system and the conditions that affect it, so cleaning or replacement addresses the problem rather than just its symptoms.

A free initial scan, followed by the right tests

Start with our free initial fault-code scan and printout. We discuss what the results show and whether further diagnostic work is needed. A code scan does not include every test needed to confirm a failed component.

What we investigate

Tell us about repeated regeneration attempts, a DPF light, reduced power or a warning that returned after a previous clean. Depending on the vehicle, the investigation can include:

  • Stored faults, relevant live data and available regeneration history.
  • Pressure and temperature information, including the associated sensors and pipework.
  • Related engine or emissions faults that may prevent normal regeneration.
  • Filter condition and whether cleaning or replacement is appropriate.

A forced regeneration is not the automatic first step for every warning. The vehicle's condition and manufacturer diagnostic criteria determine whether it is suitable.

Cleaning, repair or replacement?

If contamination can be removed and the filter is serviceable, DPF cleaning may be suitable. A damaged filter may require replacement. Faults elsewhere also need attention to reduce the risk of the warning returning.

We have worked on DPF faults since 2004, including work for Sytner, Sinclair, Stratstone, Arrow Maserati, Pinetree and Trade Centre Wales. Today our workshop also helps individual owners understand their repair options.

Prepare for a diagnostic visit

Send the registration, engine, mileage and warning details. Bring previous code printouts, cleaning reports and repair invoices. Tell us about the vehicle's usual journeys and whether the warning appeared before or after other work. Leave stored fault information available where possible.

How much will the investigation cost?

The initial scan and printout are free. Additional diagnostic time, cleaning, removal/refitting and replacement parts are separate items. We discuss the proposed work and quotation once we understand the vehicle and the checks it needs.

Will cleaning stop the warning permanently?

Cleaning may resolve the current warning when deposits are the cause, but future faults or deposits can still occur. Cleaning cannot repair a damaged filter or a separate sensor, wiring or engine fault.
