Matthew Ryder won a third consecutive British Hillclimb Championship after a tense Prescott finale left him just one point clear.

Ryder arrived with a two-point advantage over William Hall and Wallace Menzies. Menzies won the opening Run Off and set a new record on the 1,127-yard course, drawing level with Ryder in the championship.

The final contest changed the picture again. Menzies spun into the barrier at Orchard, ending his immediate challenge, but dropped-score calculations meant Ryder still needed a top-two finish to retain the crown.

Hall won the final Run Off, while Ryder held second to secure the title. The result settled a season in which the leading competitors had frequently been separated by very small margins.

Prescott therefore combined a course record, a decisive incident and a result achieved under sustained pressure, giving Britain's leading hillclimb series a close finish to its championship campaign.
