Kimi Antonelli became Formula 1 world champion for the first time after finishing third in the Mexico City Grand Prix on 1 November. Max Verstappen won for Red Bull, holding off Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton by 0.799 seconds.

At 20 years and 68 days old, the Mercedes driver becomes the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history, according to his team. Antonelli is the first Italian to win the drivers title since Alberto Ascari in 1953.

Antonelli started fourth and moved past Charles Leclerc for the final podium place after a red-flag restart. The race was stopped following a crash involving Cadillac driver Valtteri Bottas; a later safety car followed the retirement of Arvid Lindblad.

Hamilton, who started on pole, took second behind Verstappen. Leclerc finished fourth, with British drivers Lando Norris fifth and George Russell sixth. Russell received a ten-second penalty for a collision with Isack Hadjar, according to Mercedes and the FIA race report.

The final FIA race classification confirms the podium. Its post-race championship table places Antonelli on 380 points, ahead of Verstappen on 261, after the Mexico round.
