Had your wheels painted? Would you pay £800 for a new set of front brake discs, right after just spending £800 on replacements? This is exactly the dilemma one customer faced with their BMW G30.
The Story:
The customer had new brake pads and discs installed at a dealership, with a parts cost of £800. Soon after, they arranged for their wheels to be refurbished.
Not long after the refurbishment, the brake discs developed a warp. When the customer returned to the dealer, they were informed it wasn't covered under warranty. The issue? The inner face of the wheels had been painted, causing poor heat dissipation from the brake discs due to the paint layer.
Fortunately, the customer came to Llandow Tuning, where we used one of our On-Car Brake Disc Lathes to remove the warp and correct the runout. This restored the brake discs to a condition even better than new.
Key Takeaways:
- You don’t always need new discs to fix runout.
- Avoid painting the inner face of your wheels during refurbishment, as it can block heat transfer from the brake discs.
